The year was 1976. There was a
man with a dream. The man was Edward Herman and his dream was to own his
own auto body shop. At the time, Ed was the manager of the
body shop at Best Chevrolet. It was time to move on.
Ed located and purchased land at 325 Washington Street in Abington
Massachusetts. The land also came with a 13 room house and a
multi-bay garage in the back. The garage was the beginnings of Route 18
Auto Body and started out as an auto body
only business. Business was a bit slow at first, but some of Ed's
former customers brought their business there and in fact some are still
loyal customers today. By word of mouth and due to the excellent
results attained, the business grew. Ed hired a couple of trained
professional body men and together pumped out excellent work.
A couple of years later the 13 room house in
front was demolished, most of the area was paved to make way
for the auto sales and to add
to the existing building to make bays to accommodate the
mechanical services part of the
business. Ed again went out and hired competent and
trained professionals to handle that aspect of the business.
Today the business employs 3 full time body
shop techs and 3 full time mechanics, most of whom have been
with the company well over 10 years.
